I met Lawrence about 10 years ago while I helped a friend photograph the First Nations Young Men's Basketball Tournament being held in Kamloops. He is the Gitxsan hereditary chief, a photographer, and, as coach of the Gitxsan team, he noticed that we were taking team photos. He asked if I would shoot his portrait, and this is the outcome—you'd never know this was taken in the middle of a gymnasium floor.
