I experimented using a 500 mm catadioptric lens, which uses mirrors rather than lenses to magnify and focus an image. These lenses were popular and inexpensive for 35 mm film cameras, but I am unaware of any made specifically for digital cameras. I used an adaptor to use the Minolta lens on my digital Canon 40D SLR camera. The crop factor made this lens effectively an 800 mm lens. The catadioptric lenses are notoriously difficult to focus and although this image is a little soft, I still like it nonetheless,
