Mount Peter and Mount Paul are twin mountains at the confluence of The North Thompson and South Thompson rivers. Cold wind whistles down the North Thompson Valley, and a warm wind flows westward from The Shuswap Lakes along the South Thompson River Valley to meet the wind from the North. Infrared photography turns the sky black and makes clouds pop bright white against the sky. Although it isn't a real "tornado", it certainly shows how the winds coalesce and swirl around when winds meet over protuberances such as mountains. The streaks you see through the swirls are sunbeams from the intense October afternoon light (4:20 PM). I was standing on the sandy beach of the South Thompson River when I made this infrared composite panorama of three separate images - the white dots on the water are, believe it or not, seagulls (305 Km inland from the ocean).
