Logs For The Mill - Rodger Hort Photography

Rodger Hort Photography

This infrared image was made from the ferry that goes from Horseshoe Bay to Langdale on the Sunshine Coast of BC. This precarious load of logs is probably headed to the pulp mill at Port Mellon, just outside Gibsons. These barges have a very interesting way to unload their logs - a valve is opened on one side of the barge, and that side sinks lower than the other. As the sideways tilt becomes steeper, the logs eventually slide off the barge, which then rights itself as the load is removed from its deck.
