Moonbags are a significant part of Texada Island's annual Sandcastle Weekend event that draws huge participation from islanders and visitors alike. Children and adults delight in decorating paper bags and placing beach gravel in the bottom for ballast. After balancing the bag on a cedar shingle, a lit tealight is carefully placed onto the gravel at the bottom of the bag. Then, the participant wades into the shallow water, and the moon bag is gently sent on its way into the bay. See the next photo for the results.
