I took this picture on an overcast day with an infrared-modified 35mm camera that only sees infrared light. When you look at a piece of kelp, it seems translucent (if you hold it up to the sun). When I processed this picture, I was gob-smacked when I noticed that the kelp was almost transparent rather than merely translucent. I love being an experimental photographer and will try nearly anything to get an unusual picture with a digital camera – which is precisely why I love my infrared camera.
